MODULE 0 

The Interior Design Process

Many designers aren’t aware of a structured design process. Instead, they piece ideas together as they go, leading to chaotic projects with no clear direction—and no clue how to seamlessly incorporate quick hand-drawn illustrations into their workflow.

In Module 0 of the Foundations course, we focus on the interior design process and show exactly how architectural illustration fits in—when, where, and what type of hand-drawn illustration to use at each stage.

By understanding this process, you’ll confidently organize design projects and use your hand skills to integrate illustrations at the right moments. This allows you to present and sell your ideas faster, without relying on time-consuming computer software.

MODULE 1

Sketching for Interior Design

Many designers lack a solid understanding of perspective, a crucial skill not commonly taught in design school.

Module 1 of the Foundations course focuses on mastering perspective, providing designers with the fundamental knowledge needed to sketch furniture and rooms accurately in 1-point and 2-point perspective.

By learning perspective drawing, designers can create quick visualizations with color, showing their ideas without spending tons of time on 3D renderings during the preliminary phase enhancing the clarity and impact of their design presentations.

MODULE 2

Drafting for Interior Design

Designers often face challenges with complex and time-consuming computer software when drafting floor plans and elevations.

In Module 2 of the Foundations you will learn hand drafting as an efficient alternative to software, offering quicker drafting, accurate measurements, and the ability to visualize spaces in 2D view with ease.

By mastering hand drafting, designers can streamline their workflow, produce accurate drawings more efficiently, and provide clients with clear, scaled representations of their designs, ultimately saving time and improving client satisfaction.

MODULE 3

Drawing for Interior Design

Many interior designers struggle with drawing perspectives to scale without a clear method, leading to imprecise or inconsistent results.

In Module 3 of the Foundations course, learn to draw grids from a scaled floor plan, enabling you to accurately draw perspective rooms and furniture to scale on a grid for perfect drawings every time.

With grids, you eliminate guesswork and achieve precise, consistent results in your drawings. They are an excellent tool for producing beautiful, professional-quality illustrations that effectively communicate your design ideas to clients. Even if you've never used a grid before, you'll quickly learn to create and utilize them, enhancing your drawing skills and boosting your confidence as a designer.

MODULE 4

Rendering for Interior Design

Computer renderings lack the warmth and authenticity of hand-rendered drawings, leading to a lack of trust and engagement from clients.

In Module 4 of the Foundations you will learn to use design markers to add vibrant color and texture to your hand-rendered drawings, allowing you to accurately showcase details such as textiles on furniture.

Clients will be impressed by the personalized touch and attention to detail in your hand-rendered drawings, leading to increased trust, satisfaction, and referrals. You will save time by hand rendering your final illustrations rather than providing fake AI generated images or cold computer renderings that don't sell. Clients will be eager to collaborate further and recommend your services to others, helping to grow your business organically.

Day 1

7:30am-12:00pm | Modules 0-2

• Explore the interior design process and discover where architectural illustrations fit seamlessly into each phase.
• Dive into focused sketching exercises, mastering 1-point and 2-point perspectives while enhancing your work with marker techniques to bring your sketches to life.
• Conclude the morning session by hand-drafting a floor plan to scale, ensuring precision and a deeper understanding of your designs.

12:30pm- 5:30pm | Module 3

• Master the art of drawing furniture to scale and bring it to life with marker techniques.
• Next, learn how to create a grid from a scaled floor plan, which will serve as the foundation for drawing a 3D room complete with furniture.
• Finally, prepare your 3D room drawing for rendering, adding depth and detail to your design.
• Conclude the evening session with Urban sketching on location in historic Galveston, TX.

7:00pm- 9:00pm

• End the evening with a special dinner at an exclusive restaurant, where we’ll discuss strategies and map out your next steps in architectural illustration and interior design.

Day 2

 7:30AM-12:00PM | MODULE 3

• Finish drawing the scaled room complete with furniture, then select tactile fabrics, finishes, and materials from our resource library to design the space.
• Utilize the principles of interior design, including color, balance, repetition, and more, to bring your vision to life for the space.
• Next, develop custom marker recipes using our unique process to replicate the selected finishes, preparing your room for the final rendering stage.

12:30PM- 6:00pm | MODULE 4

• Using our signature marker techniques, you’ll render a 3D room, transforming it into a masterpiece while mastering the art of marker application.
• Wrap up the afternoon with personalized coaching sessions, Q&A, and detailed feedback to refine your skills and gain valuable insights throughout the two-day experience.

7:00PM- 9:00PM

• Cap off our final evening with a celebratory dinner, honoring your achievements and newfound skills while offering continued support and encouragement for your journey ahead.
